Three Birchwood Park-based businesses have been shortlisted in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style competition to clean up old nuclear plants.
Amec Foster Wheeler, Cavendish Nuclear and Nuvia are amongst 15 firms that have made it through to the next stage of the £3 million competition.
The competition, which is being run by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Innovate UK, aims to find and fund technology that will clean up highly radioactive ‘cells’ at nuclear plants that are no longer operational.
The shortlisted companies now have around 3 months to develop their ideas for a chance to move onto the next stage.
Martin O’ Rourke, commercial director at Birchwood Park, commented: “We would like to offer our congratulations to the shortlisted teams and wish them well in the next stage of the competition.
“Birchwood Park has long been the UK’s hub for the nuclear services industry and this competition provides a prime example of the innovation and collaboration taking place across the park.”
