St Nicholas is the protector of children. Known as Sinterklaas in the Netherlands, he is said to leave gifts of coins in their shoes which they find on the morning of the 6th.
Enjoy a Dutch take on Christmas for this special day with traditional Bitterballen (breadcrumbed meatballs), served with skinny fries with mayonnaise, and red cabbage with pickled gherkin.
