Chaplain’s Corner

How beautiful it is to find someone who asks for nothing but your company.

More of a thank you than a thought for the week this week as I’m writing this just after my first peripatetic chaplaincy session post-lockdown.

It was really great to get out onto the Business Park today, wandering in the sunshine, introducing myself to people and having some really interesting conversations. Thank you for the welcome from the people I met. You all know who you are and I hope that you’ll agree this quote could have been written for Chaplains (we are a very undemanding lot).

We really are there simply to meet you in the moment, to listen when you want to talk, to be a momentary companion asking nothing of you other than a little space in your day if that works for you. Offering you an opportunity to discuss whatever is on your heart and mind, whether you just want to engage in some small talk or whether you want to have a longer conversation about something that is bothering you.

Please feel free to come on over and talk to me when you see me wandering the grounds. I introduce myself to everybody who makes eye contact with me (and to some people who don’t, though I promise not to outstay my welcome if you are not in the mood to talk).

Lianne has also kindly taken a photo of me on site to help you recognise me and so that you know that I really am meant to be there! I aim to wander around the duck pond and surrounding areas on Thursday lunchtimes between 12noon and 2pm (on the days when the weather is dry enough for people to want to be outdoors for a while at lunchtime).

In the meantime, and on the rainy Thursdays, as always you can contact us via email on info@mitechaplaincy.com where you can request a call-back, or you can call me directly on my mobile: 07526 378529 either to chat or to arrange a time to meet on a Thursday lunchtime.

We also have a range of resources on our web-site including some that are more specific to the Covid-19 outbreak and some that help in dealing with stress: https://mite.org.uk

If you prefer you can easily keep in touch with us on social media:

I look forward to meeting you on my wanders.
