Chaplain’s Corner

Our MitE Chaplains are working towards having a physical presence at Birchwood Park within the next couple of weeks. It will look slightly different because our amazing volunteers are unable to return at the present time but watch this space, as our chaplains will be back before we know it.

In the meantime, please do catch up with our Chaplains with their latest blog:

It’s been so lovely to be able to get outside a little more over the past couple of weeks in spite of the change of the weather that I have been thinking a lot about nature and the positive impact that it has on my mood to spend some time appreciating it.

I must admit to being a fair weather outdoors person so I do very much dodge the showers in order to do this.

Looking at the striations in the rocks and cliffs in this particular image, very much led me to meditate a bit on how they’ve been formed by the impact of their experience of the weather and climate changes over the years; which then led on to thinking about how our experiences form us; how our characters are shaped and altered by our experiences and that led to wondering about how our experience of Covid is shaping us.

I’ve heard some people speak of how it has increased their anxiety and shaped their experience of going out, turning them into hermits wherever possible whilst others speak of feeling disconnected and as if they are alone in a desert even in spite of their faith and belief that God is with us always. So I got to wondering – what do you see in this image? Bleakness, emptiness and loneliness or rich colours, peace and strength?

For me it shows the tenacity and strength in this landscape and the beauty of the colours in the sky as the sun is going down, the still water with just the slightest of ripples feels peaceful and the whole landscape feels somehow timeless, able to withstand whatever the elements throw at it in the years to come. Perhaps it depends on whether you are a glass half full or a glass half empty personality as to what you see here and as to how you are experiencing the current lockdown?

If you’d like to talk through your experience, as always you can contact us via email on info@mitechaplaincy.com where you can request a call-back, we also have a range of resources on our web-site including some that are more specific to the Covid-19 outbreak: https://mite.org.uk

We’re working towards having a physical chaplaincy presence at Birchwood Park within the next couple of weeks.
