Chaplain’s Corner

I had an interesting epiphany when looking for inspiration this week – have you ever noticed how many of the images I use relate to sky, light, soft tones?

There’s obviously something about this type of image that speaks to my subconscious.

Which got me thinking about why that is. What is it about these images that speaks to me?

For me they represent hope I think – the light at the end of the tunnel as some may describe it. There’s just something about the colour palette that speaks gently to my soul.

Hope is such a central part of our inner self that it’s good to have an acknowledged, recognised way of keeping in touch with it. Hope is what helps us to get up and dust ourselves off when things go wrong and when we make a mistake. In the dictionary hope is defined as being the act of cherishing a desire with anticipation. If we accept that definition perhaps it is the anticipation that keeps us motivated to move forward and the cherishing part of that act that gives us courage. What makes you feel hopeful? Can you think of some simple thing that helps you to connect with and build on a feeling of hope inside you?

One of the things that helps me is cultivating an ‘attitude of gratitude’. Looking for at least three things to feel grateful for each day. It can be something so simple as getting 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep, getting a parking space, being acknowledged by having someone smile at me when I least expect it.

I’m always happy to swap thoughts on this while wandering around the duck pond and surrounding areas on dry Thursday lunchtimes between 12md and 2pm.

In the meantime, on the rainy Thursdays, or if you don’t manage to catch up with me outside, as always you can contact us via email on info@mitechaplaincy.com where you can request a call-back, or you are very welcome to call me directly on my mobile: 07526 378529 either to chat or to arrange a time to meet.
