I am a member of the nuclear gradutate scheme, sponsored by Sellafield and currently on secondment with CRA Risk. As part of the graduate scheme, myself and a group of my peers have set up a business, with all proceeds going to charity. Our business, PowerPlants, sells grow-your-own sunflower kits in support of our chosen charity, Growing Well.
Growing Well are a mental health charity, organic farm and training centre, based in Kendal, Cumbria. They work with people to rebuild a sense of purpose, engage in meaningful activities and build hope for the future. People leave with the skills to manage their mental health and reduce reliance on health services.
Through selling grow-your-own sunflower kits, our aim is to provide those who may lack the time or space to garden with the tools they need to grow a beautiful sunflower from seed. Naturally sunflowers brighten up any living or work space, but scientific studies have also shown that growing plants can have a therapeutic effect on mental well-being.
Ultimately, our ambitions are threefold: improving our customers’ mental well-being; raising awareness of the importance of mental well-being, at work and at home; and raising money for Growing Well to improve their people’s mental well-being.
