St Rocco’s Hospice volunteer wins Long Service Award sponsored by Birchwood Park

Leonard Butler was announced as the winner of the Long Service Award at this year’s Warrington Star Awards held earlier this week.

The award, sponsored by Birchwood Park, recognises those volunteers that have dedicated a huge amount of their time to volunteering in the local community.

Annie Baker, volunteer engagement officer at Warrington Voluntary Action, said: “Leonard is a driver who brings patients to the Vitality Centre and takes them home after, building up friendships and much needed companionship for some. He has been volunteering with St Rocco’s Hospice for 14 years.

“He started volunteering to drive patients to the Hospice in the minibus after completing his minibus trainer’s course – this enabled Leonard to instruct all other minibus volunteer drivers. Over the years Leonard has taken on more volunteering roles and has always been willing to stand in at the drop of a hat.”

The annual Warrington Star Awards are organised by Warrington Voluntary Action to thank Warrington volunteers for giving their time and skills to the Warrington Community.

Martin O’Rourke, commercial director at Birchwood Park, added: “We want to take this opportunity to congratulate Leonard on his award. His volunteering commitment is truly admirable and acts as a great example for others in the community.”
