Restart a Heart Day

Did you know that Tuesday 16 October 2018, is World Restart a Heart Day?

Restart a Heart is a designated yearly day of action with the aim to teach vital life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills to as many people as possible. This year, Restart a Heart is going global and will also include Birchwood Park!

For the first time, it will be called World Restart a Heart with support from resuscitation councils covering America (North, Central and South), Canada, South Africa, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, as well as Europe.

Last year Restart a Heart Day saw an incredible 150,000 young people learn lifesaving skills like CPR in a single day. Local charity Hand on Heart (based in Chadwick House) are joining in this amazing event and giving companies and individuals within Birchwood Park the opportunity to join in too.

During this special day, Hand on Heart will be offering Birchwood Park employees the chance to learn CPR or refresh skills. There’s no fee – its completely free to take part. Simply pop across to Chadwick House reception area where you will see Emma and Lesley between the hours of 10.30am and 4.00pm to have a free taster session in basic life support skills including CPR.

Hand on Heart’s mission is to keep children safe and prevent the deaths of 12 young people who die of sudden cardiac arrest each week in the UK.

FACTS

  •  When someone has a cardiac arrest, every minute without defibrillation reduces their chances of survival by 10%
  • If a defibrillator is used and effective CPR is performed within the first 3 to 5 minutes, survival chances increase from 6% to over 74%
  • Without immediate treatment, 90-95% of sudden cardiac arrest victims will die
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the most extreme case of an emergency, as the patient loses consciousness at once and stops breathing immediately

Don’t miss this free opportunity to learn new CPR skills or refresh existing ones on Tuesday 16th October.
