How Leavitt Walmsley Associates are ‘Breaking the Bias’

As a local, independent practice of chartered certified accountants and business advisors, LWA are certainly breaking the bias as per the theme for 2022’s International Women’s Day; typically across the professional services sector, women account for less than half of the workforce (Source: ONS report Women and the Economy) and of the 15 staff working across two LWA locations in Birchwood and South Manchester, there are nine females (four of which hold senior roles) and six males working for the practice:

Teigan Risley (pictured here) – Tax Assistant
Amy Daniels – Accounts Manager
Shannon Knight – Accounts Assistant
Danielle Safhill – Accounts & Payroll Support
Sara Bishop – Payroll Manager
Angela Kitson – Payroll Manager
Sharon Chaffe – Administrator
Joanna Deas – Administrator

It is important to the LWA senior team to encourage young potential professionals (regardless of gender) to take up a career in the areas of accountancy – they do this by forming partnerships with local schools and colleges. In 2018, Teigan Risley joined LWA as a Trainee Accountant straight from school in Widnes on an apprenticeship under the mentorship of Nicola Antley-Slater. Since then, Teigan has worked hard on her qualifications, been promoted to the role of Tax Assistant, and is currently preparing for her final tax exams to complete her AAT qualification, after which she will start studying towards her Chartered Tax exams to become a fully qualified Tax Accountant.
