Chaplains Corner: Spiritual Strength

This week’s Chaplain’s Corner focuses on spiritual strength and how we are able to tap into that inner strength during these trying times.

I often feel most at peace in nature and somehow wolves have always held a special place in my heart. This week when I was thinking about chaplains corner I came across this Ralph Waldo Emerson quote with a very appropriate (to my mind) picture of a wolf. How apt are these words? And how best can we tap into that inner strength?

What animal do you relate to when you think of strength, resilience and courage? Do you think of an animal? Or what do you feel a connection to when you think of spirituality and ponder the meaning of life and why you’re here; in this situation; at this time?

As a Christian I believe that the Holy Spirit lives within us, connecting us to God, acting as our conscience, guiding us along the path that He has set before us, nudging us when we step off the path, loving us wherever we are in life, celebrating with us in joyful times and suffering with us when we are in pain. My faith enables me to be grateful for, and to recognise, blessings even in the midst of trying times and I believe that whether you have a faith or not, being able to live a grateful life helps to fulfil a deep spiritual need that we all have.

Being grateful is hard when we are hurting but if we can spend a few minutes at the beginning and end of each day finding even small things to be grateful for, it connects us with a feeling of being loved and valued. That in turn brings a sense of calm and peace. If you’re struggling with feelings and emotions during this time of lockdown and social isolation MitE chaplains are here to listen.

Our role is to offer spiritual and pastoral support that works for you. We don’t have an agenda of our own. We are guided by you. While we aren’t able to meet face to face during the virus lock down, you can contact a chaplain via email on info@mitechaplaincy.com and if you’d prefer to speak to someone request a call-back, we also have a range of resources on our web-site including some that are more specific to the Covid-19 outbreak: https://mite.org.uk

Alternatively you can keep in touch with us on social media:

Our MitE Chaplaincy have also created a Facebook group to provide a space for sole traders, entrepreneurs, start-ups and small business with presence on Birchwood Park to receive support during the current Coronavirus situation.

This is a great place for wellbeing and business advice and a space for small businesses to work together to support each other during this difficult time. If you think this will be helpful, please find it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/BirchwoodParkSupport/
