Chaplain’s Corner

Going in one more round, when you don’t think you can, that’s what makes all the difference in your life ~ Rocky Balboa

Whoever thought a chaplain would be quoting a Rocky film. It’s sometimes surprising how much life wisdom we can find in different sources of literature, films or other dramatic productions.

How many times have you felt battered by the curve balls that life throws at you yet managed somehow to get up, dust yourself off metaphorically and find a way to carry on?

I don’t know about you, but as much as I love this image and the feelings of joy and empowerment that it encourages, there have been just as many times when I’ve felt battered or even shattered by life situations. Isn’t it just amazing though that there is something within our human nature that gives us the capacity to find ways to keep picking ourselves up? As a Christian my faith is what does that for me in that at those times I can lean on God’s strength and trust that He is right there with me, holding me no matter how difficult the situation.

What sustains you during those times? Do you have someone that you turn to, a person or faith that is your rock in stormy seas? Some people have a go to safe place where they can spend some time healing their hurts through meditation, contemplation or exercise. We are all so individual and unique that what works for one may not work for all of us; but in these difficult times it’s more important than ever for us to know how to nourish ourselves, to regain the strength that we need to live our daily lives, to feel valued, whole and to know that we matter.

As humans we flourish most when we have a sense of purpose and when life throws us curve balls it can really have a negative impact on our sense of self and our sense of purpose; it can mess with our sense of the reason we are here, the reason we are living and / or working in a certain place etc. Chaplains care, so if you are feeling a little lost or as if life circumstances a re just a bit too chaotic at the moment, talk to us.

Part of our role is to help you find ways of nourishing yourself, giving yourself time to explore what will help you to feel positive and hopeful in life. We are that listening ear that you can bounce thoughts, hopes or concerns onto. We can also sign-post you to organisations that provide extra support in a range of situations. We’re here most Monday and Wednesday lunchtimes to listen whatever you would like to talk about and if you just want to break up your day with a light-hearted conversation that’s great too.

If you don’t manage to catch up with a chaplain on site, as always you can contact us via email on info@mitechaplaincy.com where you can request a call-back, or you are very welcome to call me (Debbie) directly on my mobile: 07526 378529 either to chat or to arrange a time to meet up with myself or one of the other chaplains.

We also have a range of resources on our web-site that help in dealing with stress: https://mite.org.uk If you prefer you can easily keep in touch with us on social media:
