“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s words await another voice.”
~ T.S. Eliot ~

As we approach New Year’s Eve this year there are so many surreal thoughts and experiences milling around in my head.

Questions, anxieties, hopes. For me, TS Eliot could have been very much speaking into this end of year 2020.

Which are going to be the last years words for you? What voice are you hoping to hear as we move forward into 2021?

My hope is that Covid-19 will become very much one of last year’s words. A distant memory that we can relegate to the past. Something we have lived through and found our way out of.

Other words I very much hope remain last year’s are: ‘lockdown’, ‘restrictions’, ‘panic buying’.

The voice I am hoping to hear is very much a voice filled with warmth tinged with excitement, hope and compassion: for all that has gone before and all that is to come. Language like: ‘let’s meet for a coffee’; ‘it was lovely to see you’; ‘I’ll be over at the weekend’.

I hope that 2021 brings good health and is filled with love and stability after the rocky year that we’ve all had in 2020.

Please remember if you’d like to talk to a chaplain about anything, you are very welcome to call or text me directly on my mobile: 07526 378529.
