Birchwood 10k

On Sunday 21st August, Spectrum Striders Running Club organised the 34th running of the Birchwood 10K. For the first time we had over 1000 finishers from local running clubs and others who are not members of clubs. Most of the competitors came from the north-west, but there were runners from further afield. We know from the finishers we had a group from the Wimbledon Windmilers enjoying the 10 kilometre course.

The race was won by Jack Martin from Stockport Harriers in 32:15. The first lady runner was Kirsty Longley from Liverpool Pembroke & Sefton Harriers in a time of 36:52, and was the winner in the 2015 race too. There were many more with the last runner taking around 90 minutes to get round.

Spectrum Striders would like to thank Birchwood Park for allowing access through the excellent surroundings of Birchwood Park to give a delightful traffic-free section of the course. As all of us who work on the park know it is a nice place to be. Next year’s race will be on 20th August 2017 if you want to add it into your diary.
