Medieval Fayre at The Centre, Thursday 4th May 2017

Celebrate May Day at our Medieval themed fayre at The Centre.

Entertainment includes a falconry display with full medieval set up, morris dancing, and music from the 12th to 15th Centuries. Also, visit our selection of market stalls selling all manor of fantastic produce such as meats, artisan meads, waxed cheese truckles, flowers and crafts.

In Merrie Englande the onset of summer was greeted with much celebration and optimism on Mayday as preparations began for the summer. To mark that occasion we will have our own Town Cryer (we couldn’t afford Barry Cryer) regaling you with news of the day.

The Garden Restaurant
Rag Puddyng
Rag puddyng is an Oldham delicacy dating back many years and comprises savoury minced beef with onions steamed in suet pastry.

Porkie pig pye
The origin of this dish is unknown but features in many English counties and we have chosen the Cheshire version of diced pork, chunks of smoked ham hock, spicy pork sausages, enveloped in crispy short crust pastry. This was often given to the town cryer as a reward for his services.

Clucke and Thyme
This was a popular dish amongst the artisans in medieval England. Roast thyme scented chicken with rhubarb and oatmeal stuffing.
